Helping the Helpers: A Mental Health Resource for the Church
A new resource in the fight to help Christians who are struggling with mental health issues and addictions.
Mr. Rogers famously recounted that his mother often told him whenever there was a crisis, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”
This is so true of the church. When people face difficult situations, they turn to the church for prayer and assistance.
However, when it comes to mental health issues, not everyone is equipped to provide that help. With a staggering 1:4 Americans with a mental health issue, the need is great, and the likelihood of encountering those with such issues is also high.
After my interview and follow-up article on the topic of mental health and the church’s response, The Christian Chronicle reached out to me to review a new book to help equip the saints for this vital task.
“How Can I Help You?*” is a new release from David J. Pope, a mental health and addiction counselor, with lived experience in both arenas. He brings his wealth of knowledge gained from over 40 years in the trenches.
