The Weight of Comparison
Comparison is one of the quietest thieves of joy. Social media amplifies "perfection" without showing the "behind-the-scenes," giving an inaccurate picture none can live up to.
Comparison is one of the quietest thieves of joy. Psychology research shows that constant comparison can lower self‑esteem and fuel anxiety. Social media magnifies this tendency, offering endless highlight reels that rarely show the full story.
Scripture discusses this trap. Galatians 6:4 says, “Each one should test his own work. Then he will have reason to boast in himself alone, and not in someone else.” God’s design is unique for each of us; comparison blinds us to the beauty of our own path.
Wellness grows when we shift from comparison to celebration. Instead of asking, “Why not me?” we begin to ask, “What can I learn from this that I can use to glorify God?” Gratitude and self‑compassion are shown to rewire the brain, replacing envy with peace.
