On this day devoted to love, here are reminders that not only is God the Author of love, He is Love!
God IS Love
• 1 John 4:8 — Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
• 1 John 4:16 — And we have come to know and believe the love that God has for us. God is love; whoever abides in love abides in God, and God in him.
God’s Love Shown Through Christ
• Romans 5:8 — But God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
• John 3:16 — For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
• 1 John 4:9 — This is how God’s love was revealed among us: God sent His one and only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him.
• John 15:13 — Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
God’s Love is Everlasting and Faithful
• Jeremiah 31:3 — The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have drawn you with loving devotion.
• Psalm 136:26 — Give thanks to the God of heaven! His loving devotion endures forever.
• Zephaniah 3:17 — The Lord your God is among you; He is mighty to save. He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you with His love; He will rejoice over you with singing.”
God’s Love is Steadfast and Immovable
• Romans 8:37–39 — No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
• Ephesians 3:16–17 — I ask that out of the riches of His glory He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. Then you, being rooted and grounded in love, will have power, together with all the saints, to comprehend the length and width and height and depth of the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
• Psalm 86:15 — But You, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in loving devotion and faithfulness. (See also Psalm 103:8)
• 1 John 4:19 — We love because He first loved us.
God’s Love Transforms Us
• Ephesians 2:4–5 — But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in our trespasses.
• Galatians 2:20 — I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
God’s Love is Our Daily Anchor
• Psalm 143:8 — Let me hear Your loving devotion in the morning, for I have put my trust in You. Teach me the way I should walk, for to You I lift up my soul.
• Lamentations 3:22–23 — Because of the loving devotion of the Lord we are not consumed, for His mercies never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness!
God’s Love is Our Model for Loving Others
• John 15:12 — This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
• 1 Peter 4:8 — Above all, love one another deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
• Ephesians 4:2 — with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love,
• Romans 12:9–10 — Love must be sincere. Detest what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Outdo yourselves in honoring one another.
